Bridge the gap between injury care and a confident return to activity in Ottawa.
After an injury, knowing that movement is important is not the same as knowing what to do, how much to do or when to progress.
Active rehabilitation, exercise rehabilitation and post-injury conditioning are related ways people describe the exercise-focused stage of recovery. The plan uses selected movement to rebuild the strength, mobility, endurance, balance and task tolerance required for everyday life.
Fleming Fitness works with people whose starting points range from a recent transition out of treatment to a longer period of reduced activity. Sessions are one-to-one and may take place in the Kanata clinic, in the home when available, or virtually when the service and safety needs fit that format.
Kinesiology is not the same as physiotherapy or physical therapy. A Registered Kinesiologist focuses on human movement, function and progressive exercise. Continue with a physician, physiotherapist or another healthcare professional when diagnosis, medical treatment or care outside the kinesiologist's scope is needed.
How an injury can continue to limit daily life.
People often seek active rehabilitation or post-injury exercise support because the injury is no longer the only problem. Strength, tolerance, confidence and routine may also need to be rebuilt.
Everyday tasks feel harder
Stairs, carrying groceries, getting up from the floor, driving or household tasks may require more effort or planning than they did before.
Strength or endurance has dropped
A period of pain, rest or reduced activity can make work, recreation and regular exercise feel less manageable.
Movement feels uncertain
You may avoid a position or activity because you are unsure what response is expected or how to progress safely.
You have finished one stage of care
You may understand the injury but still need a structured exercise plan for the next phase of function and conditioning.
What happens during an injury rehabilitation session.
The first appointment establishes a usable starting point. Later sessions coach the plan, review the response and adjust the demand.
Discuss the injury and the goal
Review relevant history, restrictions, previous care and the work, mobility, family or recreational task you want to make easier.
Establish a functional baseline
The kinesiologist may observe relevant movement, strength, balance, endurance or task tolerance based on the goal and current presentation.
Practise and progress
Learn selected exercises, expected responses and alternatives. The plan changes according to performance, recovery and real-life demands.
Measure injury rehabilitation by what becomes more possible.
Pain scores can be useful, but they are not the only measure. Progress should connect with function and the activity you are rebuilding.
More task tolerance
Walking, lifting, reaching, driving, work or household activity becomes more manageable or predictable.
Greater physical capacity
Strength, mobility, balance or endurance improves in ways that support the target activity.
A clearer independent plan
You understand what to practise, how to adjust it and which change means the program needs review.
Choose injury rehabilitation with a clear professional scope.
Ask whether the appointment is kinesiology, personal training, physiotherapy or another service. These titles do not mean the same thing and the provider's role should be clear before you begin.
Registered Kinesiologists are regulated in Ontario and are accountable to the College of Kinesiologists of Ontario. Ask for the provider's full title and confirm which credential will appear on your receipt.
New, severe, rapidly worsening or unexplained symptoms may need assessment by an appropriate healthcare professional before exercise continues. The website and booking form cannot determine the cause of a symptom.
Questions about active injury rehabilitation in Ottawa.
When can I begin kinesiology after an injury?
Timing depends on the injury, current symptoms, restrictions and recommendations from the professionals involved in your care. The first conversation can identify what information is needed before exercise begins.
Is injury rehabilitation at Fleming Fitness physiotherapy?
No. Fleming Fitness provides kinesiology and exercise-based services, not physiotherapy under its kinesiology service. Physiotherapy or medical care may continue before, alongside or after kinesiology when that scope is required.
Do I need a referral for injury rehabilitation?
A referral is not always required to ask about service, but one may be useful or required by an insurer, payer or another part of your care plan. Confirm third-party requirements directly with the responsible organization.
Can injury rehabilitation happen in my home?
In-home kinesiology may be available depending on your address, goals, equipment needs and schedule. Fleming Fitness also offers clinic and selected virtual appointments.
How long will injury rehabilitation take?
There is no responsible universal timeline. Duration depends on the injury, starting point, goals, attendance, response to exercise, home practice and other care. Your provider should explain how and when the plan will be reviewed.
What should I include in my appointment request?
Describe the injury or event, the activity you want to resume, relevant restrictions or recommendations, your preferred setting and the best way to contact you.
